What is MonkeyType?
MonkeyType is a blogging system similar to MoveableType, Text Pattern, and Autolog. It allows the user to keep an online journal, of sorts.
Does the world really need another blogging tool?
No. Next Question.
What is special about MonkeyType?
MonkeyType aims to be 100% XHTML 1.0 compliant, and in general have a slick interface. Other than that, nothing.
What language is MonkeyType written in?
Version 1.0 of MonkeyType was written in Macromedia ColdFusion (CFML) and uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for the database. There is lots of internal rumbling at distinctPixel that version 2.0 will be written in a different language, though.
Why ColdFusion?
Because we used to really like ColdFusion. Notice the used to part. The CFML language is a dream to write in, allowing the author to to go from concept, to prototype, to finished product in no time. However, it looks like the jury is pretty quickly turning sour on the new version (ColdFusion MX), thus the internal rumbling.
When will it be available?
Soon. We have a couple beta sites running it already. As soon as we can find some time, we’ll finish it, and make all the source available here.
